The Half Craft Gemstone Guide

Even though I have a degree in metals and jewelry, it wasn’t until I got my first job out of school, at a jewelry manufacturer, that I learned the basics about gemstones. The jewelry I’m making now for Half Craft is all about 3D printed gemstones, inspired by the real thing but making it all about the geometry and facets rather than about how shiny it is. What got me really thinking about gems this way is looking at them drawn out, like I have them below. These 2D pictures are so much more interesting to me than a tiny, shimmery diamond, where the facets disappear in all that shine.

Here is a basic guide to gemstones that I drew up. I hope that you find it instructional, and maybe even inspirational!gem guide
